A bit of a slow month...

If you check my Latest Additions you'll see that I have only managed 4 books so far this month which is a bit tortoise-like for me.

I'm on my 5th at the moment and my Kindle tells me that I'm 64% through and I hope to finish it in a day or two. And then there's the audio book with one CD out of 10 to go, so that will happen too.

I'm not sure what is causing the slow down - a week or two ago I would have blamed the Olympics. Maybe it's the weather.

It is certainly not for a lack of books to read.

Do you get slow downs? Is it just that we get tired of reading?

Kerrie - I do indeed go through slow times in my reading. I think it's just part of the cycle...

Kerri, I think it can be numerous issues, just life taking over sometimes.

Do you feel your mind wondering or to tired to focus?

Good luck, at least it is not a reading slump where you are not reading or enjoying anything you read.

Absolutely I have slow-downs Kerrie. There are times when I'll read 3-4 books in a week, and then times when I'll only read a couple in a month. Life can get in the way, you get out of the habit, or sometimes I'm just a bit 'over it', when I do so much reading for review/interview purposes etc. Just gets a bit same-same sometimes - you still enjoy it, but not as much somehow.

Having a bit of a slow-down lately myself. Have only been averaging about 4 books a month all year, as opposed to twice that last year. Have about 6-7 books on the go, as yet unfinished, when normally i power through one before starting another. Not entirely sure what it is. Sometimes we just need a break.

Yes. Definitely I have reading slumps, like right now when I'm reading a good book.

Life has gotten in the way -- tasks and family issues, which require a lot of attention and energy.

Reading is often a distraction from these stresses and responsibilities, but sometimes books have to take a back seat, but it's not happily done.

You'll get your reading energy back soon.

I think slow-downs are essential. It happens to me for a variety of reasons and getting tired of reading is one of them - and I think of myself as a book addict. But there are other things going on in our lives too and some times they take precedence. And then I find myself looking forward to reading and feeling irritated that other things get in the way - and that's when my reading gets going again. As Margot says it's all part of the cycle.
